The Beginning
Patty and I have decided to move our 43' Silverton to Florida and put it into a charter service. This will allow us to have our boat down there when we visit our condo in Burnt Store Marina in the winter.
South West Florida Yachts is the charter company we have chosen to use. They are located in North Ft Myers at Marinatown Yacht Harbor. We have chartered from them in the past and seem to be a top notch organization. They have been in business for 23 years, so they have survived some economic ups and downs in the past.
Jeff Janacek and I will be the two people who are moving the boat south through the central US river system to Mobile, AL, and then across the Gulf of Mexico to Ft Myers. Jeff is a licensed powerboat captain, and his family recently completed the great loop cruise around the eastern US. Can't think of a better person I would rather have to go with me, since this will be my first time making this long trip.
We plan to leave around October 20th and hopefully arrive before Thanksgiving. The insurance company doesn't allow us to have the boat below the 32nd parallel (about 200 miles north of Mobile) until after Nov 15, so it will be a tight schedule. The entire route is about 2200 miles.
Once underway I hope to update the blog about everyother day, and will post a lot of pictures for all to enjoy.
